Submission Requirements
All abstracts for the pre-conference should be submitted via our online abstract submission system. The system is now open and will close for pre-conference abstract proposals on Friday 10th May 2024 at 5.00pm. Proposals are welcomed on a range of topics and should be a maximum of 300 words in length.

The Centre for the Advancement of STEM Teaching and Learning (CASTeL) invites researchers, teachers, students and interested others to the SMEC Pre-Conference 2024.
The SMEC Pre-Conference will take place on 12th June 2024. This event will take place from 5.00-7.00pm, followed by a reception on St. Patrick’s Campus, DCU.
We invite you to share, debate, discuss and reflect upon ideas under the conference theme ‘Beyond Boundaries – Future-proofing Science, Maths, Technology and Engineering Education’.
Pre-Conference Presentation Format
Presentation & Poster
Participants are asked to present their research as a slideshow presentation with an accompanying poster. Each participant will have 7 minutes for their slideshow presentation and 3 minutes for Q&A. Presentations are welcomed on research or practice.
Presenters at the conference will prepare an accompanying poster that will be displayed during the Pre-Conference reception, where there will be further opportunities for sharing of ideas and networking. Prizes will be awarded for the best research during the Pre-Conference. Posters should be A0 (118.9 cm x 84.1 cm).
Posters will also be exhibited during main Science and Maths Education Conference (SMEC) on 13th and 14th June. Registration at the Pre-Conference does not include SMEC. Please register for SMEC at the following link if you plan to attend:
